Clothing Joint Detoxification Roadmap

Greenpeace welcomes the joint roadmap (1) announced by international apparel companies Adidas, H&M, Nike and Puma, which is an important step towards eliminating all brand supply chains and hazardous substances emissions by 2020.

Greenpeace also welcomed the measures taken by C&A, a fast fashion retailer and Lining, a Chinese sports brand. The company's own "detoxification" commitment (2) allowed them to participate in the "road map" credibly.

MartinHojsik, coordinator of the green peace organization's detoxification campaign, said: "now fashion leaders have come up with their design for a non-toxic future. They need to turn these designs into ready-made clothing products. These non-toxic products will bring great changes to fashion."

The joint roadmap outlines how the company will implement their "detoxification" commitments (3), including tools development, detailed monitoring of hazardous chemicals release, and green chemistry initiatives and pilot projects to eliminate certain chemicals.

However, Greenpeace challenges all companies and requires them to issue shorter and more specific timetables to address more urgent toxic water pollution problems.

"We call on all these companies to become more pparent and provide a clear timetable for the disclosure of pollution information so that the public can monitor the progress in achieving zero emissions of all hazardous chemicals quickly and conveniently," Hojsik said.

The joint roadmap includes C&A and Li Ning Co, as well as their "detoxification" commitments. When working with suppliers, we will promote the revolution of our garment production process and make the garment production process innocuous. Therefore, this will strengthen the position of the promised brand (5).

"As the first Chinese brand to promise to remove all hazardous chemicals from its supply chain and products and adopt a joint roadmap, Lining is setting a clear example for all other Chinese brands," Hojsik said.

"Toxic water pollution is a pressing problem that threatens millions of people, so they need to do a lot of work. They must listen to their customers' demand for non-toxic clothing and act quickly and resolutely and decisively to achieve effective structural changes in the clothing industry," he concluded.

Greenpeace is an independent global movement organization whose task is to change attitudes and behaviors, protect and preserve the environment, and promote peace.

The Greenpeace movement requires companies and governments to take actions to stop dangerous substances, persistent chemicals and hormone disrupting hormones from polluting our water industry and detoxifying our future.
