The visionary Count Robert Jean de Vogue, President of Moet & Chandon, found that other grape growing areas outside the French champagne production area have broad prospects for producing high quality sparkling wines.

With keen touch, he instructed technical advisor and Renaud Poirier, a liquor specialist, to develop new markets for the production of sparkling wine.

Poirier soon set his sights on South America.

A number of alcohol tests between 1957 and 1959 convinced him that Argentina (the Agrelo Mendoza area) was the best location for the first French Moet distillery outside France.

Fertile clay, desert weather, fresh air, and significant thermal amplitude are all suitable for planting high concentration, large grain and delicious grapes.

In 1959, Chandon distillery settled in Argentina.

Today, Bodegas Chandon has become the leader of the wine industry in China. It has many blister wines and no bubble wine brands.

In Argentina, the Chandon brand itself has become synonymous with high quality sparkling wine.
