The manager index (PMI) was 51.7%, up 0.5 percentage points from last month.

After a three month decline, the index has picked up this month and has been at a critical point above 50%, indicating that China's manufacturing economy is still growing.


In August 2010, in the 5 sub indices of manufacturing PMI, the production index, the new order index and the supplier delivery time index increased, and the stock index of raw materials and the employment index fell slightly.


The production index was 53.1%, 0.4 percentage points higher than last month, and nineteen months above the critical point, indicating that manufacturing enterprises maintained steady growth.

Production in the industry, petroleum processing and coking industry, agricultural and sideline food processing and food manufacturing industry increased significantly compared with the previous month. The ferrous metal smelting and calendering processing industry and non-ferrous metal smelting and calendering processing industry production declined after two consecutive months. The production index of chemical fiber manufacturing and rubber plastic products, pharmaceutical manufacturing and pportation equipment manufacturing industry has been placed below the critical point for two consecutive months, and the production volume of enterprises has been declining continuously.

According to the regulation mode, the production index of large and medium-sized enterprises has picked up and maintained above the critical point. The production index of small enterprises has dropped to below the critical point.

The index is 53.1%, higher than the 2.2 percentage point of last month, and above the critical point, indicating that the manufacturing market demand has increased from last month.

In terms of industry, new orders for industries such as agricultural and sideline food processing and food manufacturing, petroleum processing and coking industry, special equipment and instrumentation, cultural and office machinery manufacturing industry are on the rise; ferrous metal smelting and calendering processing industry and non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry have increased to more than a critical point this month; the new order index of wood processing, bamboo, rattan, brown products and furniture manufacturing industry has been below the critical point for four consecutive months; the textile and chemical fiber manufacturing and rubber and plastic products industry new orders index has been below the critical point for two consecutive months, indicating that market demand continues to decline.

The survey shows that the export orders index is 52.2%, up 1 percentage points from last month.


The stock index of major raw materials was 47.3%, down 0.5 percentage points from last month, and for three consecutive months, it was below the critical point, indicating that the stock of major raw materials was on the decline.

The survey shows that some enterprises have reduced procurement volume due to the rising price of raw materials.

From the industry situation, the main raw materials inventory of non-metallic mineral products industry, chemical fiber manufacturing and rubber plastic products industry, special equipment and instrumentation, cultural and office machinery manufacturing industry, metal products industry, electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing industry decreased significantly compared with last month.


The employment index was 51.7%, down from 0.5 percentage points last month, and six months above the critical point, indicating a steady growth in demand for manufacturing labor.

From the perspective of the industry, the volume of labor in the metal products industry, agricultural and sideline food processing and food manufacturing industries increased significantly, and the employment volume of enterprises in the textile and tobacco products industries dropped from last month.


The supplier delivery time index was 50.7%, higher than the 0.8 percentage point of last month, and above the critical point, indicating that the delivery time of manufacturing raw material suppliers was slightly faster than that of last month.


The survey shows that the main raw material purchase price index is 60.5%, a 10.1 percentage point increase over last month.

According to the industry, the purchase price of the main raw materials in the 20 industries is only lower than that of the previous month. Other industries have increased to varying degrees over the previous month. The prices of major raw materials, such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, agricultural and sideline food processing and food manufacturing, wood processing, Taketo palm grass products and furniture manufacturing industry, have risen considerably. The purchase price index is at a high level of more than 70%; the purchase price of major raw materials in ferrous metal smelting and calendering processing and chemical fiber manufacturing and rubber and plastic products industry has been rising again in recent months; the price of the main raw materials purchased in textile industry has narrowed significantly.


This month, enterprises reflected the frequent occurrence of geological disasters due to extreme weather, and the railway pportation in some areas was tense, and the procurement of enterprises was more difficult.
