(World Trade Organization, or WTO) said on Wednesday that the volume of global merchandise trade increased significantly in the first six months of 2010, continuing the strong upward trend in the first quarter of this year.


WTO announced that global trade in current dollar terms increased by 25% in the first half of this year compared with the same period last year.

WTO announced in June that trade volume increased by 25% in the first quarter compared with the same period in 2009.


WTO said global exports in the second quarter.

Volume of trade

Compared with the first quarter, the growth rate was 7%, and the export volume in the first quarter was 3% lower than that in the fourth quarter of 2009.


WTO said export growth in China and Brazil was particularly rapid in the second quarter, while commodity exports increased by 23% and 27% respectively.

Exports of the US European and the European Union (Union) increased by 6% and 5% respectively.


WTO said it was boosted by 44% growth in China's imports, the second quarter.

Global import

The volume of trade increased by 6% over the first quarter.

By contrast, imports from the United States and the European Union increased by 12% and 3% respectively.
