How To Deal With Young Bosses In The Workplace?

2008/11/14 10:45:00 41886

I recently had a new boss who was only 32 years old.

I am 20 years older than him, and I think he is more experienced, educated and intelligent than he is.

His idea is impulsive and impetuous, and to my disgust, all my colleagues are flattering him.

I am afraid that, because I have pointed out that some of his plans will not work, I may have been estranged from him.

How do I deal with this self righteous young man?

Manager, male, 51 years old

(answer)

Before answering your question, I should remind you that most of the readers under 40 years old (and a few readers over 40 years old) despise you.

Their e-mail says you are a terrible old fool, unwilling to admit that your present boss is superior to you.

Like most older readers, I don't think you are a terrible fool at all.

In fact, I can easily imagine that I feel the same way.

Having a boss who is 20 years younger than himself is very troublesome. It proves that you are old enough to take this seriously.

In politically correct offices, people expect us to ignore age problems, but in fact, age is still an important factor in the office. We will set ranks on the basis of seniority, and pretend to ignore it.

The problems you are facing will happen to all of us, and we all have to learn how to deal with them - but this does not make the problem enjoyable.

As far as you think of this young boss's lack of skills, I believe his experience is not as rich as yours and less than you.

Many of their generation are like this.

However, he may have other qualities to make him a better manager - of course not.

It is not without precedent for idiot to succeed.

But the question is not whether he is worthy of this seat.

It is foolish of you to offend him, you must immediately pull the lid off.

I reckon you can't find a good job outside, so you can either do this job honorably or be a grumpy nuisance.

It is foolish to choose the latter, because it will put you in danger of losing your job. At the same time, because you think about his problems all the time, you will eventually become bitter and boring, and become a real old fool.

You shouldn't be flattering. You should concentrate on your work.

The passage of time will help, partly because you are getting closer to retirement - I think retirement should be your ultimate goal.

As time goes on, his thoughts may become less thoughtless, and you will gradually get used to his disgusting young faces.

The last point: I like the word "self righteous young man" very much.

It's easy to resonate.

But I regret to suggest that we should avoid using it.

  老蠢货之一

In my opinion, you seem to be jealous of his success.

I am young and smart, but I already know that there will always be smarter and younger people than me.

I can tolerate this situation, but to my surprise, you are more than 50 years old, but you can not do that.

Banker, male, 23 years old

  老蠢货之二

Every word you use is sharply portrayed as a "disgusting, passive, uncommitted employee" image.

Your company obviously has every reason to raise a young person who is 20 years younger than you to a higher position.

You can either change your attitude or humble yourself to contribute the wisdom of your 20 years to your team's success. Or, if you are fired for your very serious negative attitude, quit your job voluntarily.

Chief information officer, male, more than 40

  倚老卖老的蠢货

Suppose you find yourself difficult to work for, because of your boss's gender, race, or religious belief, and what will happen.

Instead of choosing a sexism or racial discrimination with a self righteous young man, imagine how many job interviews you can take in your spare time.

Banker, male, 43 years old

  助他成功

You are not a team player, you can hardly handle this situation, and your attitude is not good.

Either imagine your boss better or get a new job.

Manager, female, 27 years old

  助他失败

You have to fully support your boss's ideas.

In this way, he failed completely in a faster time.

The less conspicuous you are, the better the results will be when you end up making a fool of yourself, but when he is demoted, you will get a better position.

Scholar, female, more than 40 years old

  随遇而安

I am the same age as you, and have the same situation.

We have no hope of promotion, so we must swallow our pride and pride and calm our ambitions.

Tell your boss that you will be loyal.

Help him in his weaknesses -- he will be honors, but he will defend you because he needs you.

You can enjoy life without the bureaucratic pressure of management system.

Banker, male, 52 years old

Final stroke

Remember, cunning and betrayal are better than youth and enthusiasm.

How To Tie Your Boss To A Line?

What kind of person is your boss? Is your boss a person who only wants to grasp the overall situation, or is he a person who does not relax at all? If you report to a person who only wishes to grasp the big picture, you will soon be upset. You may think that you are so careful about a job, and your boss is indifferent. In fact, it is wrong to think so. A leader who is only willing to grasp the overall situation will think that you should take all the bases.
