Consumers Association: Buy Bags, Beware Of Sneak Into The Hidden Rules
Only leather on the front side is genuine cowhide. The back, bottom and belt are all PU leather. Can this leather bag be called whole cowhide?
Recently, a consumer complained to the City Consumers Association that he had bought the whole leather bag instead of the whole cowhide and demanded a "one back and one loss". According to Mr. Qian, the complainant, he bought two women's leather bags in a shopping mall in our city, and the total price was 830 yuan. At that time, the salesperson introduced that the two leather bags were all cowhide, and the label on the bag was labeled "black cowhide".
In order to dispel doubts, Mr. Qian made a special call to the manufacturer's after sale telephone call and reported the number of two leather bags. After enquiry by the factory staff, the two leather bags were positive only leather, and the back of the bag, the bottom of the bag and the wrapping belt were all PU leather materials.
Mr. Qian immediately said that so many parts of leather bags were not cowhide, and the word "cowhide" should not be marked. The factory staff said, "this is the industry practice. If the 75% bags are cowhide, they can be labeled as cowhide."
Mr. Qian was not satisfied with the explanation, so he complained to the City Consumers Association. The staff of the association then intervened in the investigation, and the mall admitted that there was a problem in the labeling, indicating that it would immediately rectify the problem. Under the mediation of Consumers Association, the shopping mall will eventually "return one to one" for the consumers.
Consumers Association said that the entire leather bag 75% fabric is cowhide marked as full leather, which belongs to the hidden rules of the leather bag industry, which infringes consumers' right to know. In fact, if the material of the leather is mixed fabric, the manufacturer must indicate the fabric composition of the leather.
For example, if cowhide is more than synthetic leather, it is marked "cowhide / synthetic leather"; if artificial leather is more than cowhide, then "artificial leather / cowhide" should be labeled. The dermal part of the leather bag should at least not be less than 90% of the whole leather bag.
