In September 15th, a shoe factory named Li Chang shoe industry Co., Ltd., a big shoe factory in Dashi street, Panyu District, caused about 2 tons of heavy oil leakage due to the rupture of the oil pipeline outside the boiler room, resulting in two river pollution in Dawei village.

Yesterday, we learned from the Panyu District environmental protection bureau that the heavy oil leaked has been basically recovered and the pollution incidents are basically under control. The environmental protection department has completed investigation and evidence collection for the enterprises involved in the accident, and the perpetrators will be fined up to 100 thousand yuan.

At 10 o'clock yesterday morning, Dawei village, a heavy oil spill, was seen on a main river in the village. Although the pollution incident has been going on for two days, there is still a strong smell of oil pollution on the river which is not very wide.

At the end of the river near the village, there are dense white oil absorbing felt on both sides of the stone bridge. In the area near the lower reaches of the 1 kilometer river near the Dashi waterway, the local authorities have set up 3 protective barriers to prevent the overflow of oil spill.

One villager sister-in-law told reporters that they were spraying oil additives on the river surface and had been working for a day.

Reporters saw that in this section of the river, there are even people holding boats to spray oil on the water.

At the scene, a reporter saw more than 1 kilometres of Dashi culture square downstream of the polluted river. On the river below the square, black water could be seen flowing downstream towards the south bank.

From the Environmental Protection Bureau of Panyu District and Dashi Town Street office, the heavy oil that caused the pollution of Dawei village's river was discharged from an enterprise named Li Chang shoe industry Co., Ltd., which caused the pollution of two rivers in Dawei village.

The Panyu District Environmental Protection Bureau immediately launched an emergency plan. The local town and village first closed down the Dawei sluice and the three gate of the polluted river leading to the Dashi waterway. The heavy oil did not enter the main channel of the Pearl River.

According to the environmental protection department, the polluted river is mainly the irrigation source of Dawei village, but the surrounding farmland is higher than the water channel. At present, the environmental protection department has not found farmland contaminated by heavy oil.

At the same time, the environmental protection department ordered the accident company to immediately contact qualified oil treatment companies to clean up the heavy oil pollutants leaked out.

Local environmental protection bureau director Jane said yesterday that the environmental protection department and the cleaning company dispatched nearly 200 people to clean up the pollution.

According to the estimation of Dashi street, "clean-up work will be basically completed in September 18th".

According to statistics from the environmental protection department, the leakage of heavy oil is about 2 tons.
